Morris Ranch is a story of family and community, built by a menagerie of meaningful characters over generations. At Morris Ranch our past informs our future, and we are obliged to honor and expand upon our connection to those who came before us. Our goal is to serve the land with grace, to foster community, and to create a space that brings people together to experience our legacy.
Our mission is to preserve the history and legacy of Morris Ranch as a working ranch, event center, and winery, with accommodations of the highest quality to house our guests. Our spaces, and all of the distinct details that accompany them, are both approachable and intentional, with design that blends a tradition with a rhythm suited for today.
Exploring Our Past
Past & Present
Initially established in 1856, Morris Ranch began its journey with the acquisition of a vast 24,000-acre tract of land. This acquisition laid the groundwork for the ranch's pioneering role in the Texas Hill Country. The founders of Morris Ranch transformed this rugged and untamed wilderness into a flourishing landscape of rolling hills and productive farmland, forever changing the face of the region.

Preserving the Past for Today
The Ranch
The Ranch, in addition to the fields and pastures, underwent a massive building campaign led by renowned architect Alfred Giles. This campaign included the construction of a roller mill, cotton gin, a general store, and a schoolhouse among the some 200 structures in total. Today, the Schoolhouse remains one of the few buildings remaining of the old ranch. Meticulously restored in 1980, the building offers an insight into the past while mystifying us here in the present on the scale and craftsmanship of pioneers with limited means.

Conserving Our Future
Sustainable Living
Sustainability and conservation are topics that first entered discussions a century ago. Originally focused on wildlife and soils from over farming and over grazing, today, we face new threats to the future viability of our ecosystems and watersheds. We explore how sustainable agriculture and land use come in various shapes and sizes, and how we aim to conserve the lands of Morris Ranch for future generations in spite of the growing challenges of the 21st-century.
